Its daybreak and getting out of her bed she walks to the window. The sun is rising and and the sky is a beautiful orange.Opening the window, the cool breeze gushes on her. This had become a daily norm for her,to begin her day watching the sunrise with a mug of hot coffee ready on her bedside as soon as she woke up.She then moved on with her day working as an investment banker. This sea facing apartment in a plush Mumbai locality was her most priced possession.
And on the other side of the same city a small child feels sick because of that wind. He’s been in dat wind all his life.Felt it cold an warm, wet and dry. He's seen and felt all of it and now he is tired,he is tired of sleeping on the roads;waking up each day with the harsh rays of the sun and the sounds of horns, tired of breathing in all the smoking and smellin the stench 24*7.All he longs for is a small home,a place  he could call his own and not some public property.
Yes!!!!These are the two faces of India, poles apart from each other yet totally its own.One where everything is hunky dory and people have much more than the basic necessities. So much so they do not know what to do with it and the other where people are struggling even for food and shelter.I do not know whose fault it is for their miserable conditions and I do nt blame anyone but the true state of India today is,as we used to read in our history books in schools, the rich become richer and the poor become poorer.
It is strange how wen v walk out of Mc’Donalds after having a sumptuous meal of burger and fries,we are greeted with small children beeging for alms claiming to have not eaten anything for days. How when v walk out of those plush malls with shopping bags and look around we see families of poor having their dinner. How when v drive past fly overs we see multiple families residing under them. How the filmstars in our country wear a dress and carry a bag which is worthy enough to provide a healthy living to a family for a year.Small children selling toys on streets with which they are meant to play with, diseased people dying due to lack of medical facilities when there are multi speciality hospitals in every street, intelligent students being denied education because they cannot pay their fees and not so intelligent ones taking up seats in top notch colleges by paying huge donations. Some driving in a Mercedes and some pulling loads on their backs.
And yet we tend to overlook these differences. And we overlook them not because we are ignorant but because they don’t look like differences to us anymore. They have become a part of our life. And yes no one is complaining, not even the poorer sections.Everyone is in perfect harmony ,in a symbiotic relationship like an algae and fungi. And that is how this country goes on.One part of it develops each day and the other falls into darkness.A part of it has overflowing swiss bank accounts and the other part doesn’t have enough to even hold it in one hand.
These are the two sides of a single face…one dark and the other  …one begging for pennies and the other earning in pounds!!!!
